The question I would always ask my blonding classes is: "If you had to teach another person the basics on how to highlight hair, how would you do so?" ...truth be told, highlighting is not basic. Like at all. Let me explain . .You have to be a chemist and know exactly what will happen & what the results will be when you put a chemical on a persons hair. What gets one person from a to b may not be the same product path for another person. .you have to have great hand eye coordination and multitasking skills to be able to put a foil in correctly and have it stay there for the next 45 mins all while entertaining a human that does human things like move their head when they talk 😘 .You have to be pretty good at math to create color formulas. . You need to be able to spot patterns in the hair. Patterns from natural texture, previous color, density, haircut. And make your own pattern to create shape in the highlight & and color, not just in the haircut. .you need to determine what sections are going to be best for your clients hair goals and where they part and how they style. .you need to determine how much hair is actually going to be blonded and how much is left out. . You have to be an artist, which is obviously the best part! All these elements combine for you to be able to design the final look. Hair is art!
This past year has come with many changes for me. I have really struggled with depression and finding myself after choosing to leave toxic members of my family. I got my dream job with aveda. I left a very hostile work environment after almost 7 years & because of that, I then had to quit my dream aveda job. I really worked through some shit with therapy. I started my own business! And, overall, I'm happy to be here. I am really thankful for all the love and support, and kindness all of you have given me throughout this year. How does a professional hairstylist decide where to cut off your hair when you say " take off whatever will make it haelthy"?? . . I first look to see how far up split ends go. If you don't cut high enough to get the split ends off then your hair will continue to split higher up the hair strand. Split ends can also be eliminated through layers and split end trims if your not yet willing to take off a lot of length. . From there I look to see where the split ends have broken and there is non intentional loss of density to the ends of the hair. . I also will see where your hair stops holding color and moisture. If the hair is tapped out it will not hold color vibrancy becauae there is not enough structure in the outer cuticle to hold the color in. It will not hold moisture even after you apply oil. It will tangle easily. And where the tangles start is where your hair should be cut off

The sunflowers are in full bloom & its that time of year we warm up the tones in our outfits and the colors in our hair. . Warm blondes and brunettes are in for the season! Most people struggle to find the balance with warmth and what actually works with your skin tone without having to wear a lot of makeup. If you are a person that hates feeling brassy that means you don’t love the under tone of red or orange. However you may prefer a gold tone added in either through your medium to lighter browns or your blondes like shown above.
